01 Route Preparation

Making use of the dark winter nights, planning has so far covered the first three days of my 2014 cycle tour.  Starting with a short 12 mile cycle with a fully loaded bike to Newcastle Central Station on Wednesday 11 June, I catch a train to Southampton,  no changes, just a long day with a good book.

On arrival on the south coast, there is a teatime 22 mile cycle via Gosport to Portsmouth and an 8pm ferry departure for the Breton coast. My cabin is booked and I will make sure I have a meal on the ferry.

Arriving early morning in St Malo, I will visit its beautiful walled town and have breakfast before heading along a coastal route stopping in Cancale which was always a favourite of mum and dad.     Coffee and perhaps a rendezvous with Peter and Mo before cycling onto their home in Epiniac near Dol De Bretagne for an overnight stop.

On Friday,  the cycling will really start heading east and climbing to an attractive medieval town in a national park with a high level viaduct stradding both sections of the town of Domfront, a journey of about 62 miles.

There is a campsite too which is fairly central and that should keep the cost down but the bike weight high.  More soon.
